Exchange Programs

Fall Semester 2018/19

Nagasaki Exchange (Japan)

  • Application Deadline: March 15, 2018
  • Prerequisite: JAPN&121, 122, 123 Before Departure

A brief overview of the University of Nagasaki:

In this exchange program, students enroll at the University of Nagasaki and take a semester of tuition-free, transferable Edmonds CC credits during Fall and Winter quarters. As a representative of Edmonds CC, students qualify for university subsidized housing, as well as gain the opportunity to attend special events for international students.

Because this program is an exchange, it is treated and run very differently than study abroad because there is only an exchange of a few students, and for a longer amount of time than 1 quarter. The purpose is to internationalize both participating campuses, and we design specific pre-departure meetings for EdCC students who are accepted. Students are also asked to participate in the University of Nagasaki activities and extra-curricular programs. In return, we help UN students get more involved in ours when they study here.

By the time of departure, you have taken Japanese 121, 122, and 123. The classes you would be taking would depend on your major, what is offered at the UN that year, and would be taught in English. You are required to take a full class load that will equate to about 2 quarters abroad. We work with you to register for your classes at the UN. I would say some of the greatest advantages of this exchange program is you are truly immersed in the Japanese culture in a more engaging school and social environment than a pure study abroad program. You will also have really increased your Japanese speaking skills.
